VOLUNTEER TRAINER

Role Description

Provide support to the barn care mentors for ensuring volunteers know how to care for the equines in the barn and are able to provide support to the volunteers on how to access resources available to volunteers. 

Skills & Abilities

  • Daily Grooming Techniques

    • Ensure coat, mane, tail and feet are properly cared for and checked over for any issues. 

    • Blankets: proper use and sizing

  • Keeping Stalls Clean

    • Bedding: Clean and proper level

    • Free of cobwebs and other debris

    • Cleanliness of stalls, outdoor areas and feeders

    • Water buckets cleaned and filled

  • Feeding

    • Understand the procedures for feeding time 

    • Properly feed according to the equines needs 

    • Fill hay nets and distribute

  • Performing Daily Duties

    • Respecting assignments and being present

    • Accepting a variety of roles and responsibilities

  • Vitals

    • Assist with recording vital signs on a monthly basis. 

  • Mentoring Skills

    • Encourage and Lead in a Positive Manner

    • Delegate to others respectfully, positively, appropriately and appreciatively

    • Time Management

    • Communication Skills

    • Record Keeping and Organizational Skills

    • Equine First Aid actions steps, or who to contact in case of emergency

    • Always willing to learn and share to help other volunteers grow

  • Ensure Volunteers are Logging Hours & Signing up on the Barn Help Calendar

  • Participate in Fundraisers/Events 

  • Keeping to the Mission of Hay Burr Inn Rescue & Sanctuary

Benefits

  • Be able to recognize and treat minor ailments in horses or contacting the appropriate person to handle the situation

  • Be able to maintain records and systems to keep barn equipment and supplies in an organized manner.  

On-Site Training

  • Training will be providing on the site and by someone of senior level for barn care. 

  • Supervision as well as feedback will be provided on a continual basis to provide support as needed. 

How to Become a Volunteer Trainer

  • Must be 18+ years of age. 

  • Request to put in at least 10 hours on a weekly basis.
